SCALE-RT

Manual Installation on the Target Computer

Top  Previous  Next

A Manual Installation is required if

the 'Cancel' option has been chosen at the installation suggestion screen
insufficient disk space is left on the HDD
insufficient empty partition table entries left

Depending on the available disk space you can create a SWAP partition. SCALE-RT requires at least 6 GB disk space.

Tip: The Installation Assistant can detect an existing SWAP partition and will use it.

Execute the following steps to perform a 'Manual Installation' on the Target Computer:

1. Select the 'Edit partition table with cfdisk' option to modify the harddisks partitions as shown in the following screen:

10

Note: It may take a a few seconds for the next dialog to appear.

2. A navigation menu will appear listing all HDDs of the current system. Choose a HDD to modify and press 'Enter' as shown in the following screen:

11

cfdisk will start after a few seconds.

3. Select a free space and create a new primary partition as shown in the following screen.

The size of the installation partition should be at least 4.5GB. If there is no SWAP partition defined, allow at least 512MB of space to create it. The 'Installation Assistant' will automatically detect an available SWAP partition and configures SCALE-RT to use this one. To set up a SWAP drive you will have to create a second partition and set the type to 'Linux swap / Solaris'

Write the partition table to disk and quit cfdisk

4. Choose the preferred target partition and select the 'Install SCALE-RT and restart option' as shown in the following screen:

The system will now be rebooted.

Remove the CD immediately after reboot to prevent the system from booting from CD.

6. Boot the target

It is sufficient to boot the pre-installed Target Computer. The Target real-time environment will be launched automatically after booting the system.

If the system is in demo mode, this means if you did not activate the target with your license key before (see License Management),

you have to select demo mode in the following screen to start the real-time environment.

If you have a license.dat for the target on your usb-stick you can select load license.dat to activate the target at this point.

7. Proceed with the Network configuration.
